Octavio Martinez is the Sales and Events Manager at Crystal Hall, and today, we’re sharing our recent Q+A interview with him! This will give you some insight into Octavio’s background and what it’s like to have an event at Crystal Hall in Hilton Head.

Octavio was born in Valencia, Venezuela and moved to the United Sates in 2013. His hospitality career began in 2016 with the Marriott Vacation Club, where he worked in food and beverage events. To grow his career in sales, he took a management job with a telecommunications company over the past two years. After years of sales growth, he happily accepted his new role as Sales and Events Manager with Crystal Hall in November of 2022.

He is bilingual in English and Spanish. He looks forward to helping you plan your next event or meeting!

How do you get into event planning? 

When doing community service in Miami, I helped a company coordinate and set up a number of nonprofitable events with the town of Weston and the Hispanic community under “Las Americas LLC.” Later on, I started helping to organize larger events, such as election gatherings, festivals, and meetings. 

What’s your favorite type of event to plan?

Weddings and Quinceaneras, simply because we get to be involved in creating a very special and wonderful memory that our guests will remember forever.

What’s your favorite thing about Crystal Hall?

Our competitive pricing and the size. It’s difficult to find a room this size for the price that we offer on the Island or in Bluffton.

What’s the best part of your job?

Getting to meet the guests! I like to listen to their story and learn about why they want to celebrate.

How do you help people plan their events?

I usually assist in the organization and inventory. I make sure that we offer all the necessary tools for the event to go smoothly. If we can’t provide the service that they require, I’ll go out and find it for them.

What’s your top event planning tip?

Plan ahead. A lot of things can change at the last minute, especially if one person tries to rush it. So plan ahead, and be proactive instead of reacting. Photographers get booked far before the event takes place, and it’s the same for catering. Always ask if the event space owns a liquor license, because they follow a different set of rules and policies stated by the state. You may find yourself violating said policies during an event, and being forced to either stop a service or lose the room all together. 

What’s the best thing to do in Hilton Head?

I enjoy the restaurants that the island has to offer. There are many restaurants that will provide amazing service like no other place. Be sure to ask our front desk about discounts for local Hilton Head restaurants, activities, and tours.

  1. I am from Venezuela and moved here in 2014.
  2. I spent most of my life growing up in Fort Lauderdale.
